Bio Coatings

In order to become a European and world driving forces in research on multifunctional bioactive films, VINF experts are currently working on the development and study of new biocompatible, bioactive and wear resistant coatings that will assists in the solution of industrial (new innovative biomaterials and material synthesis technology) and social problems (improvement of the quality of life of European citizens).

In order to support the members’ integration and promote progress in the development of new biocompatible, bioactive and wear resistant nanostructured coatings for surgical implants, 4 research projects have been generated:

  • Project 1:

MULTIFUNCTIONAL BIOACTIVE NANOSTRUCTURE FILMS (MUBINAF) FOR LOAD-BEARING IMPLANTS

  • Project 2:

HAP and Ca PHOSPHATE COATINGS FOR ORTHOPAEDIC AND DENTAL IMPLANTS

  • Project 3:

BIOCOMPATIBLE WEAR-RESISTANT NANOSTRUCTURED COATINGS FOR ARTICULATING JOINT REPLACEMENTS

  • Project 4:

SURFACE BIO-FUNCTIONALIZATION OF SURGICAL IMPLANTS FOR CELL GUIDANCE AND CONTROL


VINF teams provide a complementary range of expertise and research facilities to fulfil the above mentioned projects that include material scientists, experts in processing of coatings and their characterization as well as theoreticians. Some of the members have close cooperation with biologists, microbiologists and medical doctors (surgeons).
