VINF's aim is to establish a strong network in the field of Nano-structured Films, by merging all together the competences that are available in Europe. VINF is an organisation in which professors, researchers, students, industrialists meet, exchange their human resources and infrastructures, and work together on the development of new Nano Films technologies. Its mission is declined through integration, research, spreading of excellence and technology exploitation activities.


VINF community aims at bringing people together to

  • Generate new ideas and gather forces for process and product development;
  • Improve and promote the mobility of young scientist throughout European institutions and companies; and
  • Provide a preferential channel for Nano Films job market.

Research Activities

VINF participates actively in research programmes such as the European Framework Programmes (FP6 & FP7) and national/regional programmes. The strength of the network allows VINF to improve research proposals quality and thus increases chances to get fundings. VINF can be integrated within a research project as coordinator or core partner. The Institute is already involved in European projects as partner in charge of dissemination activities, but can also be in the future responsible for some research activities.

Spreading of Excellence

Thanks to its expert members from universities, research centers and companies, VINF provides already a 2 years cycle high quality European Post-Graduate Training Programme. The institute organises also on a regular basis knowledge dissemination events such as the European Conference on Nano Films, e-learning modules and à-la-carte trainings (on demand).

Technology Exploitation

Many patents have been published by the VINF members and joint efforts go on to speed-up products or processes development. VINF organises regular meetings between researchers and industrialists and promotes their joint activities.

The VINF community provides also technical services for any external organisation. For instance, solution to accurate issues in product or process development can be found, as well as litterature search, coating deposition, and/or single or multiple surface characterization.
